Getting There

  • Owen Roberts International Airport is just outside George Town and is where most international flights arrive into although some flights arrive at Gerrard Smith International Airport on Cayman Brac.
  • There are direct flights from London, Toronto and many US cities and Air Jamaica flies direct to Jamaica.
  • Cruise ships arrive at George Town Dock or at Creek on Grand Cayman.

Visas


  • Entry requirements to the Cayman Islands are similar to that of the UK and those requiring a visa should visit a British embassy or consulate.
  • Most nationalities do not need a visa for tourists visits under 30 days. A valid passport, sufficient funds and an onward ticket are all that is required. More information here.

Climate

  • The Cayman Islands is a year round destination with warm temperatures of around 24-30°C.
  • Mid December to April (winter) are the coolest months with the lowest rainfall). This is also the busy tourist season.
  • The summer months of May to November are hotter. This is when it's less crowded and accommodation is much cheaper.
  • September and October are the most humid months.
  • June to November is potential hurricane season, August/September are the highest risk months.

Personal Safety

  • The Cayman Islands is politically stable with a high standard of living. Crime rates are low.
  • Petty crime such as bag snatching and pick pocketing can occur and the usual common sense precautions should be taken. Don't leave valuables lying around and use hotel safe deposit boxes.
  • Drugs are illegal in the Cayman Islands and penalties for possesion are severe.
  • Check the weather forcast before travel in June to November when hurricanes are a risk.
