Things to do and see:
- Go hiking on Brava, the smallest of the inhabited islands and the most scenic.
- Hit the beaches of Tarrafal on Sao Tiago island
- See UNESCO World Heritage site Cidade Velha (Old City). It was the first European settlement in the tropics and was a clearing house for the transatlantic slave trade.
- See the Fortress of St Philip (Fortaleza Real de Sao Filipe) at sunrise or sunset. Built in 1587 on the side of the cliffs it offers great views of the Cidade Velha.
- Visit the Mindelo Fish market for a glimpse of local Cape Verde life.
- Also in Mindelo, the Palacio de Presidente in the old colonial quarter is hard to miss. Mindelo is an attractive colonial town and harbor.
- Climb up Mount Fogo. It’ll take you a few hours but the views are worth it.
- Windsurf or Kitesurf. Sal is a popular destination for wind based watersports. November to June sees perfect wind conditions.
- Go horse riding along an unspoilt coastline.
