Personal safety
- Be aware of Pickpockets in Phnom Penh.
- Avoid dark alleys and walking alone at night. If you are threatened it is best not to resist, there are a lot of guns in Cambodia.
- Cambodia is a heavily mined area so do not step off the roads in rural areas. Even at Angkor Wat, it is advisable to stay on the beaten tracks. Never touch any mortars or mines that you may come across.
- The deadly hanuman snake are common throughout Cambodia. They are small and light green in colour.
Insurance
- This is a no brainer. You should have insurance. The peace of mind is worth the small outlay. We recommend WORLD NOMADS Insurance.

Money
- Cambodia's currency is the Cambodian Riel (CR)
- The US$ is accepted everywhere and the Thai baht is also widely accepted.
- Change comes in Riel and it's good to keep some in your pocket for motos, tips or beggars.
- When changing currency, check the US$ bills carefully. Small rips in the bills renders them worthless.
- US$ travelers cheques are easy to cash.
- Credit cards are becoming more popular but are still not accepted everywhere.
- Banks in the cities can make cash advances from credit cards.
- Tipping is not customary, bargaining is.
