Getting There
- Fly into Phnom Penh from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vientiane, Guangzhou and Ho Chi Minh City.
- There are also direct flights into Siem Reap.
- Some budget airlines such as Air Asia now fly to Phnom Penh.
- It is also possible to cross overland from Thailand at Poipet and then take a bus to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
- Or you can cross from Hat Lek in Thailand's Trat province over to Krong Koh Kong from where you can get a fast boat to Sihanoukville and then a bus to Phnom Penh.
- It is also possible to cross into Cambodia from Vietnam's Moc Bai (as long as Moc Bai is stamped in your passport as your designated exit point from Vietnam).
Visas
- One month tourist visas are issued to most nationalities on arrival at the international airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. There is a fee for this and a passport photo is required.
- A departure tax is levied when leaving via the airports.
- If arriving overland you must get your visa in advance at an embassy or through a travel agent.
Climate
- Cambodia has a year round warm, tropical climate.
- Cambodia has a rainy season from May to October with September and October being the wettest months.
- The dry season runs from November to April.
- April to May can be very hot and humid. November to January are cooler months.
Health
- No vaccinations are required to enter Cambodia. However it's a good idea to have up to the date typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis A and hepatitis B immunizations.
- Malaria and Dengue Fever exist throughout Cambodia
- Schistosomiasis (bilharzia) occurs in the Mekong Delta so avoid swimming in the water there.
- Only bottled water should be drunk to avoid dysentery and liver flukes.
- Any essential medications should be taken with you as they may not be available in Cambodia.
- As Cambodian hospitals are of a low standard you may need to evacuate to Bangkok in the case of a serious illness.
