Health
- Health care is adequate and many larger hotels have GP’s on call or on the premises.
- There is one hospital (Holberton) on the island plus a well equipped private clinic and many pharmacies.
- No vaccinations are required to enter Antigua.
- There is no recompression chamber on Antigua. The nearest are available (by air ambulance) at Saba and in Guadeloupe.
- You can call emergency services on 911 and 999
- Most ailments are upset stomachs or sun/heat related problems. Drink lots of water (the breezes disguise the intensity of the sun) and splash on the sun screen.
- Use repellant for mosquitos, sand flies and fire ants.
Insurance

- Antigua’s currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$)
- The US$ is widely accepted in tourist areas (although change will normally be in EC$ and cents.
- Most banks are in St. Johns
- Most restaurants and hotels will add 10% service and 8.5% tax to your bill.
